Indigenous Health Rounds

iCON has partnered with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Aboriginal Health to develop Indigenous Health Rounds, which serve as a platform to bring Indigenous voices to health care providers, policy makers and health administrators for knowledge sharing, dialogue, and brainstorming solutions to combat racism and foster culturally safe healthcare settings for Indigenous patients and families.

Indigenous Health Rounds

In response to the systemic racism against Indigenous peoples in the B.C. healthcare system, as highlighted in the report “In Plain Sight” by Dr. Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond, and resulting health disparities, iCON partnered with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Aboriginal Health to improve cultural safety for Indigenous communities through the delivery of Indigenous Health Rounds. These health rounds serve as a platform to bring Indigenous voices to health care providers, policy makers and health administrators for knowledge sharing, dialogue and brainstorming solutions to combat racism and foster culturally safe health care settings for Indigenous patients and families. These 1.5hr health rounds provide audiences with the tools to better understand historical and current health care contexts, and to reflect on their own practices and how they could apply cultural safety knowledge and skills in the design and delivery of health care.
“Your meetings are the best run in Canada. I so admire your format. Exceptional!”
“I loved how engaged people were, as so many people tuned in and asked so many questions. It also showed that there is a lot to learn…and a lot of questions to be addressed- this type of webinar and training should be offered at VCH orientation”.
