Recap: UBC Emergency Medicine Grand Rounds – Cultural Safety and Anti-Racism in Healthcare: How can Emergency Medicine Contribute?

On Tuesday, September 15, 2020, Dr. Kendall Ho and Dr. Dan Kalla co-hosted a Grand Rounds presentation within the UBC Department of Emergency Medicine. Their presentation, “Cultural Safety and Anti-Racism in Healthcare: How can Emergency Medicine Contribute?”, focused on the experiences of Indigenous peoples within the BC healthcare system, including individual experiences of racism and an overview of systemic efforts and resources for Emergency Care to create a more culturally safe and anti-racist experience for all patients.

Guest speakers at this presentation include: Elder Dennis Joseph of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation, Leslie Bonshor (Executive Director, Aboriginal Health, Vancouver Coastal Health), Dr. Lindsay Farrell (Director of Indigenous Wellness Reconciliation and Partnership, Providence Health Care), Dr. David Tu (Clinical Assistant Professor, UBC Department of Family Practice), and Dr. Michael Dumont (Clinical Instructor, UBC Department of Family Practice).
